Retroperitoneal Ganglioneuroma

چکیده
A 10-year boy presented with a painless swelling in the left upper abdomen which gradually increased in size. Physical examination revealed a non tender, smooth, firm and an irregular mass in left hypochondrium extending to left lumbar region. On ultrasound, a hypoechoic lesion (14cm x10cm) in left suprarenal region was noted. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a large (18cm x 12cm) lobulated hypodense lesion with linear hyperdense enhancing areas in the left suprarenal region (Fig. 1). The lesion displaced the stomach and pancreas anterio-superiorly, the left kidney posterio-inferiorly and the spleen laterally. The fat planes surrounding these structures were intact. There was stretching of the splenic and left renal veins. Medially, the mass was seen extending anterior to the abdominal aorta. There was anteriolateral displacement of the portal vein and inferior vena cava while the bowel loops were displaced inferiorly.

A case of retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma.
We describe a rare case of a primary retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma that was found accidentally during preoperative examinations conducted due to a suspicion of ovarian cancer. Computerized tomography was not able to differentiate the retroperitoneal mass from an adrenal tumor. We diagnosed the retroperitoneal tumor by means of selective adrenal angiography.

Retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma is a rare benign tumor, which is included in the neuroblastomas group. It can occur anywhere along the peripheral autonomic ganglion sites, and the tumor is often incidentally detected in asymptomatic patients or may produce symptoms related to the slow growing tumor. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and the prognosis is good. We report a case of retro...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Excision of a Retroperitoneal Ganglioneuroma
OBJECTIVE Ganglioneuromas are rare benign tumors originating from ganglion cells. Ganglioneuromas are detected incidentally because they are asymptomatic. We report a case of laparoscopic excision of a retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma. CASE DESCRIPTION A 49-y-old female was admitted to our medical center with the complaint of abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound showed a hypoechoic solid lesion...
متن کاملRetroperitoneal Ganglioneuroma Mimicking a Kidney Tumor. Case Report
BACKGROUND Ganglioneuroma (GN) is a rare benign tumor arising from the neural crest cells. The reported incidence of GN is one per million population. As a primary retroperitoneal tumor, it constitutes only a small percentage of 0.72 to 1.6%. GN can arise de novo or as a result of maturation of a neuroblastoma either spontaneously or after chemotherapy. The most common location is the posterior...
متن کاملDiagnostic imaging findings of pelvic retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma in a child: a case report with the emphasis on initial ultrasound findings.
Ganglioneuromas are rare benign tumors of neural crest origin developed along the sympathetic chain. The pelvic retroperitoneum is the rarest location of these tumors. Clinically these tumors are commonly asypmtomatic even if they reach large sizes. Here we report the radiological features of a 16 year old boy with pathologically proven retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma that was detected initially...
متن کاملA case of ganglioneuroma presenting abnormal FDG uptake.
We report a case of ganglioneuroma with abnormal 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. A 26-year-old woman presented to the hospital with a slowly growing abdominal tumor without symptoms. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in childhood and treated by surgery and chemotherapy. Computed tomography (CT) revealed huge retroperitoneal tumors and fused 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomog...
